In the Middle Ages, skilled soapmakers who knew the secrets of crafting fine white soap mingled with aristocrats, while more accessible brown soap was used by the lower class. Fast forward to modern times, soapmaking gained prominence during the industrial age when it became a mass-produced craft, with nearly every town hosting a soap manufacturer.
In a crowded market, small producers face significant pressure to stand out. Soaps can vary greatly in quality and sensory appeal. As household kitchens evolved with plumbing and electricity, people began crafting their own soaps, turning it into a side income or for home use.
Making soap is akin to cooking. You can ensure it's usable and effective, but creating something that delights the senses and nourishes the soul requires thought and expertise.

The Adventure of SAEW Danish Soapery
SAEW is a concept in development, currently in its pilot phase. From humble beginnings in 2018 without a physical shop but a homemade laboratory in a rented room in Hamburg, SAEW found its rhythm with the opening of its first shop in Husum in the summer of 2021. In this phase, SAEW strives to develop a delightful repertoire of soap-based products for everything from head to toe before moving to the next steps.
Our largest selection is the "Natursaew" range—olive oil-based hard soaps enriched with shea butter. Each soap is uniquely scented with essential oils, creating a harmonious blend that tells its own story. Additionally, SAEW offers a super-soft natural liquid soap in various fragrances, a luxurious shaving soap, a miracle cream for dry skin, and other carefully considered products. We focus on soap, avoiding unnecessary extras—only what we believe is essential.
Our Vision
The vision for SAEW Danish Soapery is to uphold a high standard of product quality and customer service where feedback is taken very seriously. Quality is of utmost importance, and customers always have a money-back guarantee option with each purchase. Every soap should tell a story and leave an impression. As SAEW continues to learn and stabilize, we aim to create a lounge-like exhibition of soaps where customers can comfortably enjoy coffee and listen to Ella Fitzgerald, surrounded by wonderful aromas.
